Location: To reach the Thuya Lakes area from Kamloops take the Yellowhead (Hwy #5) north to Little Fort. At Little Fort turn west (left) on hwy 24 and drive for about 15 kms. (9.3 miles). Thuya Lake access road is found on the south (left) side of Hwy 24. Follow signs and main road to Thuya Lakes Lodge 9 kms. (5.6 miles) south of Hwy 24.

Resorts & Campsites: One resort, The Rustic Resort at Thuya Lakes, which is located between Thuya and Island lake, provides 8 rustic log cabins with boats. No camping sites. This resort is the only resort in an area that includes 30 excellent, small, remote, wilderness fishing lakes with most accessable only by trail, however, the resort keeps boats on many of them.

Fishing Report: Excellent fly fishing for wild Kamloops Rainbow trout. A fishery that produces well right through the fishing season. Fast action for rainbows that range from small up to the 6 lb. class. Thuya and Island lake, which are roughly the same size are the largest in the area; see nearby lakes for the names of some excellent smalll nearby hike-in lakes.

Viewscape: Thuya lake, the main lake in this area is quite flat on its north side. The east, west and south sides have gentle rolling hills with moderate slopes. Deciduous growth consists of willow and alder while lodgepole pine and spruce make up the coniferous forest.

Shoreline: Minor rock outcroppings and sedge grass are found in the 1st. 2 m. (6.6 ft.) of land from the lakes edge. The shoreline substrate is composed of angular and round material with approximately 40% of the lakes surface area having a sparse plant cover.

Nearby Lakes

Island, Dot, Disappointment, Young's Summit, Trail's End, Pearl, Robinson, Kevin, Boot, Jackpine, Randy, Jeremy, Two Match Lakes and Scot. Explore them all either with belly boats or by the resorts boats that are left on them. These lakes offer lots of variety and great action for rainbows all the way up to 6 lbs.
